BWC’s Philanthropic Fund

As a community service, the Branchburg Woman’s Club (BWC) designed and commissioned refrigerator magnets to be given to Branchburg residents free of charge at community events.  Printed in the colors of the United States’ flag, these custom imprinted magnets list important telephone numbers and local information that community members might appreciate having quick access to in various situations and find useful for many years.  They also list a telephone number for club membership inquiries.

One of several club awards won this past spring, this project won a certificate of merit from the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Club’s Fourth District* as “Best All Around Work in the District Reported in the Community Improvement Program”. (*As a result of the recent district redistribution, the club is now part of the College District.)

In an effort to encourage early literacy, the Branchburg Woman’s Club (BWC) started a read-aloud project in early February 2004 at Branchburg’s Whiton Elementary School.  The club has a tradition of promoting education by means of student awards and other related activities.

Memorial Tree Dedication at Little Red Schoolhouse

On Saturday, May 10, 2008 the Branchburg Woman’s Club will dedicate a pink dogwood tree to be planted on the Little Red Schoolhouse’s lawn in fond memory of club members Naomi Mallory and Mary Florence Cadden.  This ceremony will follow the schoolhouse belfry’s dedication after 4 pm.  Officially known as the South Branch School, Branchburg's Little Red Schoolhouse is located at 2120 South Branch Road, near Studdiford Drive.

Naomi Mallory, who passed away July 20, 2006, was a founding member of the Branchburg Woman’s Club, club president for the 1965 - 1966 club year, and a very active club member for over 46 years.  She will be remembered for her intelligence, her wit, and her love of reading.

Mary Florence, who passed away January 21 of this year, joined the club in 1973 and was an enthusiastic club member.  She will be remembered for her genteel, southern charm and cheerful disposition as well as her wonderful gardening talent.  She also was a member and a former president of the Community Garden Club of Hunterdon County.  A winner of many awards in flower shows, she was elected Emeritus-Master Flower Show Judge in 2006 for her 25 years of service to the National Garden Clubs.

Both Naomi and Mary Florence volunteered many hours to the club and had many dear friends.  Their presence in the club and in the community is greatly missed.  The flowering pink dogwood tree will serve as living memorial to these two great ladies.
